Oral Glucose-Tolerance Test
With this test, you'll find out if you're one of the too many men out there with undiagnosed diabetes. Unlike a standard fasting blood-sugar check, the tolerance test stresses your metabolism to see how your body handles a glucose load.
How it's done
After a night of fasting and a morning glucose drink, your blood is drawn several times over three hours. A result higher than 11 mmol/l at the two-hour mark is trouble. Before you turn to drugs, talk to your doctor about overhauling your eating and exercise habits.
C-Reactive Protein (CRP) Test
A high CRP level is a sign of arterial inflammation, your body's ‘Heart Attack Ahead’ billboard. Research published in the New England Journal of Medicine reveals that men with the highest CRP numbers have three times greater odds of infarction than those with low levels.
How it's done
Just offer up your arm. If the result is higher than five milligrams per liter, dish up the fiber: a study in the Archives of Internal Medicine states that consuming 30g of fiber daily can slash your CRP by 40 percent.
Mole Mapping
Australia has the highest skin-cancer rate in the world, so it's a good idea to go for a mole check once a year to catch any developing melanomas (dangerous skin tumors) early. Mole mapping involves taking a digital photo of your skin - while at the same time taking a closer look at any moles that look suspicious - and plotting the location of any moles on a computer. Then, when you return a year later, a second mole map will reveal any new growths - which are the ones to really worry about. If you have 50 moles on your back there's no way you're going to know if you suddenly have 51. Current technology allows us to assess the state of the skin without having to do unnecessary biopsies.
How it's done.
Most general practitioners don't have the equipment, so you'll need a dermatologist. As for the actual photo shoot, all you have to do is strip.

COCONUT FOR GOOD HEALTH
The purpose of this site is to provide information on the health benefits of coconut products, particularly coconut oil. Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid, which is known for being anti-viral, antibacterial and anti-fungal. Studies have been done on its effectiveness in lowering the viral load of HIV/AIDS patients. Coconut oil is also being used by thyroid sufferers to increase body metabolism, and to lose weight. Virgin coconut oil is also used for making natural soaps and other health products, as it is one of the healthiest things one can put on their skin.
At one time coconut oil received negative press in the US because of its high level of saturated fat. However, modern research has shown that not all saturated fats are alike and that the fatty acids in coconut oil, the medium chain triglycerides, do not raise serum cholesterol or contribute to heart disease, but are in fact very healthy. Also, some negative studies done on coconut oil in the past was done on hydrogenated coconut oil, which has been altered from its original form. Other studies have clearly shown that traditional Asian cultures that eat significant amounts of coconut in their diet do not suffer from modern diseases seen in western cultures that promote a low-fat diet.
Much research on the nutritional and medicinal benefits on coconut oil has surfaced in recent years. Much of that research has been done by Dr. Mary Enig. Dr. Enig has classified coconuts as a "functional food," which provides health benefits over and beyond the basic nutrients. She has specifically identified lauric acid as a key ingredient in coconut products:
"Approximately 50% of the fatty acids in coconut fat are lauric acid. Lauric acid is a medium chain fatty acid, which has the additional beneficial function of being formed into monolaurin in the human or animal body. Monolaurin is the anti-viral, antibacterial, and antiprotozoal monoglyceride used by the human or animal to destroy lipid coated viruses such as HIV, herpes, cytomegalovirus, influenza, various pathogenic bacteria including listeria monocytogenes and heliobacter pylori, and protozoa such as giardia lamblia. Some studies have also shown some antimicrobial effects of the free lauric acid."
As a "functional food," coconut oil is now being recognized by the medical community as a powerful tool against immune diseases. Several studies have been done on its effectiveness, and much research is currently being done on the incredible nutritional value of pure coconut oil. Please browse the links page to read about these studies. To add pure virgin coconut oil to your diet, you can purchase the Tropical Traditions brand made in the Philippines.

Lime juice for Uses and benefits
Limes are very similar to lemons, but are slightly smaller, green, and can be either sweet or sour (although sweet limes are not easy to acquire in the USA).
Traditionally, they were used by British sailors to stave off scurvy (hence the historical slang term "limeys" meaning someone from Britain) due to their high levels of vitamin C.
In addition to staving off scurvy, lime juice has been proven very helpful in getting rid of kidney stones in their early stages. By drinking a glass of lime juice each day, you increase the level of citrate in your urine, which helps to prevent the formation of calcium crystals that result in kidney stones.
One cup of lime juice provides over 45% of your daily requirement for vitamin C - and it's a wonderfully versatile food. The juice can be used to bring out the flavor of fish, can provide a wonderful zest to rice, or can be used as a light salad dressing. Here are some suggested recipes.
Food:
Squeeze lime juice onto avocado. Delicious, easy, and very healthy.
Combine lime rind, lime juice, olive oil, chili powder, garlic powder, and onion powder and mix. Cut some potatoes into wedge shapes, and coat them in the mixture. Bake the wedges for around 25 minutes at 425 F. Remove, sprinkle with cheese, and bake for a further 10 minutes. Serve with sour cream.
Mix the zest of six limes with 2 1/4 cups sugar, to create lime sugar - great for sprinkling on fruit or adding to iced tea.
Whisk together 1/4 cup lime juice and 3 tablespoons olive oil. Add cumin, salt and pepper to taste. Great with carrot, avocado or carrot based salads.
Household:
Brighten hair with a mixture of lime juice and warm water.
Clean coffee pots by scrubbing with lime juice.
Get rid of unwanted odors by grinding a lime into a garbage can or down a garbage disposal tube.
Medicinal:
Drink one glass lime juice each day to get rid of kidney stones in their early stages. (Note, kidney disease can be dangerous, always see a doctor).
Mix lime juice and honey in hot water to soothe sore throats.
Add lime juice to drinking water to help combat excessive thirst

Natural Vs Chemical Health Remedies - Which Is Better?
Natural remedies are both old-fashioned and high tech - the idea of using what the earth can offer in order to cure what ails you has become an important exercise in medicine both now and in our history.
There are many types of natural remedies out there. Some of the most common ones rely on the power of herbs in order to cure illnesses and trauma. These herbs can be just as potent, if not more so, than traditional Western medicine. Take tea tree oil for example - an Australian product that is harvested from the melaleuca tree. This essential oil has long been used by indigenous peoples of Australia as an antiseptic and anti-fungal topical medicine, but it was not imported to other parts of the world until the 1920's. Today, many people use this oil instead of harsh chemical antiseptics, to cure things ranging from small skin infections to even washing areas of the house that could be contaminated!
Another natural remedy found long ago but still used today is white willow bark. The bark of this tree was the original component of aspirin. The white willow's bark contains a compound known as salicin - related chemically to aspirin that is used today. This component is what can be used as a fever reducer and pain reliever, and has been used since the times of the ancient Egyptians. Today, some people prefer white willow bark to the harsher aspirin chemical compound.
There are also many natural remedies that fall under the label of homeopathy. Homeopathy is not the same as just using herbs and oils from plants - it is an entire school of thought on natural cures. Homeopathic remedies use minute traces of substances to cure ills - substances that would actually produce the same effect as the illness if given in large amounts. The idea of homeopathy is that "like cures like", and so tiny amounts of natural compounds are given to patients with ideas like coffee will cure insomnia.
Chinese remedies also use nature to cure ills. They are very specific prescriptions of herbs, roots and other plant and animal extracts that are meant to help different organs fight illness. Chinese medicine practitioners believe that different organs govern different illnesses, and that certain natural preparations will make those organs well again. This type of medicine has been practiced much longer than Western medicine - and many people believe that these natural cures work better than what today's medical technology has to offer.
